Saudi hypocrisy : Prophet Birthday “Sinful”

Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has once again created controversy by stating that celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s SAW Birthday is “Sinful”.

2015 is one of the years in which the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad Peace be on Him, is celebrated twice in the Gregorian calendar, as the traditional Islamic calendar is lunar based. However not all Muslims welcome the day the Prophet was born, some instead feel that even celebrated the birth of the Prophet is “sinful”. The Salafi cleric Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh is such a person, he is the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, effectively the most senior law maker in the country. He released a statement earlier in 2015 outlining the “evil” of encouraging others to celebrate the birth of the Prophet SAW, and how it corrupts people. He has previously caused controversy because of his fatwa (religious instruction) that attending pro-Palestinian demonstrations was also forbidden. Saudi Arabia also surprised people when it not only refused to support the Lebanese Resistance movement Hezbollah in its struggle against Israel, but condemned them and later made deals with Israel to use Saudi air space if Israel wanted to attack Iran .

You would imagine then, that birthdays are not celebrated in Saudi Arabia, so you would be really shocked to learn who held the world record for the biggest Cake, you guessed it, its Saudi Arabia !

Saudi Cake
The cake’s design depicted the shape of Saudi Arabia Map in celebration of the country’s national day. It took four days for the 35 chefs to make this giant cake. This cake sculpture was in association with Saadeddin Pastry in Saudi Arabia and King Abdulaziz International Airport. It had fed 9,520 people.

The Birthday cake was made in 2013 and held the record for the being the biggest cake, a title which was later claimed in 2014 by Make-A-Wish® UK in Westfields Shopping Centre London. This strange hypocrisy of Saudi Arabia which seems to be very harsh and negative on Islam and Muslims and then very liberal on issues such as the Saudi Kingdom (kingdoms and kings are alien in Islam) and Oppressors around the world.

    1. Did you read the article? Saudi Arabia says you cant celebrate the Prophets SAW Birthday, but when it was the Saudi Country Birthday, they make a massive cake as part of the celebrations, which was the biggest in the world.

    2. People get confused with culture verses religion, I simple litmus test is…if it goes against the Quran, that’s a simple no no, and if it is a culture then use the Quran as the criterion…and all is well… , culture is what man creates to distinguish of a country/ race…..where as religion is the ‘instructions’ of Our Lord..maybe we need to the important foundations,so we can grasp this fact.. And deeply contemplate ..because everything has become mixed…

    3. personally to follow the prophet is to behave in a way that can be felt from one who is unGodly [destructive] to one who is…and unfortunately we forget to contemplate on such issues..but we rather celebrate and pour energy on an outer aspect, and forget the inner…ive seen too many people doing things that have no effect on their soul…so we need to understand what is it that we are doing wrong…all of this is to bring about a need to review …but that is what we dont seem to want to face, but to create an image we love our prophet but at the same time most do not want to support true growth…

  1. It’s the birthday of prophet Muhammad..Qur’an call d birthday of prophets a day of gala.. We worship Allah alone ..there r so many hypocrites among us unfortunately who r tryin to ruin our real spirit..usually they r supporter of extremist sects ..

  2. Messengers job is ONLY to deliver. It is the message that is to be upheld. Fancying the messenger is PURE idol-worship.

    1. So what about national days? For example saudi national day, they make a big cake, its a day off, there are big parties.

Why is saudi day ok but Prophet day is not ok?

  3. The prophets birthday should be celebrated as we are commanded to show happiness at his coming. Give sadaqa feed the poor these are all good works. Without the blessed birth there would be no Islam. Muslims against this have a defect in their aqeedah and as such all their good works are 0.

  4. Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar initiated in 1922 Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi juloos in Bombay on Rabi-ul-Awwal 12, the birthday of the Prophet (saws) as a day to protest against the British Raj. Since then All India Khilafat Committee (AIKC) has been taking out juloos on the occasion (regularly). AIKC was launched in 1919 by Ali brothers–Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar and Maulana Shaukat Ali- with the active support of Mahatma Gandhi.

AIKC represented the rebellious voice of Indian Muslims against the British rule and was a protest against the use of underhand and overhand means to overthrow the Turkey Ottoman Sultanate. The Khilafat movement soon turned into a united movement, engaging both Muslims and Hindus for freedom from British rule.

Eid-E-Milad celebration was becoming anti British protest and it was a threat to the British idea of creating Saudi Arabia. Specially when the protest was to reinstate the Ottoman Empire.
At that time Major-General Sir Percy Zachariah Cox was a British Indian Army officer and Colonial Office administrator in the Middle East. He was one of the major figures in the creation of the current Middle East. He mentored the Saud tribe in administration and formation of the Kingdom, therefore, he asked the religious priests of the kingdom to ban Eid-e-Milad celebration in Saudi Arabia (banning Eid-e-Milad was among the first Saudi fatwas).

Saudi Arabia is the only Arab country where Eid-E-Milad is officially banned.

  5. And Indeed everyone rejoices except for Shaytan and his counterparts, because:

Iblis cried loudly four times, first when Allah declared him as cursed, second when he was thrown out, Third When Prophet (salallaho alaihi wasalam)was born and fourth when Surah al-Fatiha was revealed

[Ibn Kathir in Al Bidayah wan-Nihayah,

Volume No. 2, Page No. 166]

Tablighi jamat/salafis/ ahle hadiths /deobandis they cry about it and dislikes it just like Sheytan disliked and cried about Prophets birthday.
