One of the early debates in Islam was the issue of the Quran, is it something that is created, or is it something that has always existed?
Those that argue that the Quran is created say that nothing but Allah is eternal, and that the Quran, just like other revealed texts is something that Allah revealed for a purpose.
The other side of the argument is the view that the Quran is eternal, as it is God’s word, which is a part of Him and therefore eternal.
This debate is not new, and was one of the main issues of contempt between the Ash’arites and the Mu’tazilah.
What do the current generation of Muslims think?
