Yet again, there has been a terrorist attack, and the perpetrators are from a Muslim background. In this case Al Shabab have stopped a bus, and executed 28 passengers who were non-Muslim, click here to read the story.
Another terrorist attack that shocks every decent minded reader, the first question that pops into most people’s minds is “why?” and “How could they think that was a good idea?”. What is just as confusing to Muslims is, how could they do this when these acts seem completely incompatible with the teachings of the religion. The issue is made worse by media reports of “Muslim extremists” , suggesting that these groups are the pure, refined forms of Islam in action. The paradox is resolved when a clear minded , educated Muslim will realise that these acts are actually completely incompatible with Islam, however not everyone is clear minded and educated, too often Muslims will either try and rationalise the evil, blame the media or subscribe to a conspiracy theory. It seems the possibility these groups, who happen to claim to follow Islam, are just wrong and evil doesn’t cross some Muslim peoples mind’s.
It seems those on the bus have done absolutely nothing wrong, they just happen to be non-Muslim and on that bus, how Al Shabaab decide that killing them is just is beyond rational thought, here are some verses of the Quran that highlight the evil of their ways:
6|151|Say, “Come, let me tell you what your Lord has forbidden you: that you associate nothing with Him; that you honor your parents; that you do not kill your children because of poverty—We provide for you and for them; that you do not come near indecencies, whether outward or inward; and that you do not kill the soul which God has sanctified—except in the course of justice. All this He has enjoined upon you, so that you may understand.”
5|32|Because of that We ordained for the Children of Israel: that whoever kills a person—unless it is for murder or corruption on earth—it is as if he killed the whole of mankind; and whoever saves it, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind. Our messengers came to them with clarifications, but even after that, many of them continue to commit excesses in the land.
It is clear, that these people are not “extreme” muslims, but rather deviated ones, they may claim Islam, but they certainly do not follow its teachings. It is pointless referring to their religion, just as it would be pointless to refer to them as male, with dark hair or size 9 shoes, whilst they maybe factually correct, they are nothing to do with their choice of actions. So to conclude, these groups are not Extremists, Islamists or Jihadists, but simply terrorists, and they will always be just that regardless of any claim to faith.
